Fourteen

Night had fallen, and as agreed, Lyrica, Sebastian and I gathered in the library. Without needing to discuss it, we each took the same seats as before. The only difference between last night and now were the little bowls of nuts and chocolate-covered raisins that Sebastian had set out on the table.

And, of course, the fact we now knew about the caskets in the basement.

They had all turned out to be empty, with the possible exception of Venedict’s which I’d decided to leave alone because of the chains. At least, if he was actually in there, the chains were working as they were meant to. Rusted in place and covered with a thick layer of dust, it was clear they had not been disturbed for a very long time.

In other words, it looked as if we didn’t have any other vampires to worry about for now, besides Lyrica.
